In Dernau the Ahr valley widens after its narrow points and offers space for a steep valley basin in which the Pfarrwingert lies. The name of the vineyard goes back to the Catholic parish church of Dernaus, which is still the landowner in this parcel. The particularly favorable southern exposure and slope, in combination with the easily warm soil, lead to an advantageous microclimate in this location. The greywacke found here is a granular debris sediment that is caked with fragments of clay slate to form a sandstone-like structure. The Pfarrwingert brings extremely fragrant wines with subtle fruit and fine spice with pronounced minerality. Most of our areas in this very warm vineyard are planted with Pinot Noir, but the undulating topography also offers great plots for Pinot Noir, which doesn't like it that hot. The former bunker of the federal government is hidden in the depths of the mountain. (Source: Meyer-Näkel website)
