Schieferlay

Vineyard

The word Lay is derived from Lei = rock, slate rock or from the dialect Lai = roof slate. The location extends from south to southwest and is very steep. It is separated from the church tower in the west and the Sonnenberg in the east by small valley cuts. The floors are characterized by greywacke and greywacke slate as well as hanging loam and even loess loam. The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® SCHIEFERLAY in Bad Neuenahr is oriented to the south-southwest and is bordered by side valleys to the east and west. The vineyards stand at 150 to 160 meters above sea level and show a slope of 35%. The soils have different characteristics, mainly Devonian slate and greywacke, a gray-greenish type of sandstone with a high proportion of feldspar. But loess and clay can also be found here. Pinot Noir is predominant here.
