Auction Wines
The BERNKASTELER RING e.V. is one of the oldest wine auction companies in Germany. The majority of the 35 member wineries are traditional family businesses that are active in grape production, winemaking and marketing themselves. Following the guidelines of the founding generation, they cultivate an above-average proportion of Riesling vineyards, quite a few even 100%, and feel obliged to produce a "special quality". The close-to-nature care of the vineyards in the steep slopes that characterize the landscape of the Moselle wine-growing region is now also an essential contribution to the preservation of our more than 2000-year-old cultural landscape.
The VDP.Auctions bring the best wine batches of the current vintage and selected rarities from the treasure chambers of the wineries of the former "Association of German Natural Wine Auctioneers" to the national and international market. Year after year, they are an indicator of the appreciation for the top wines of the VDP.Prädikatsweingüter of the new vintage. Wine auctions have a long tradition in the Rheingau. This tradition was founded in 1806, when the Duke of Nassau had wine in barrels auctioned for the first time in Eberbach Abbey.
The VDP.Auctions have a special feature: The wines marked with a sticker as "auction wines" are offered by the VDP.Wineries exclusively at these VDP.Auctions. They are only available in free trade if a buyer resells his bottles. As a rule, they disappear into the treasury after the auction and are only presented on special occasions.
