Bassermann-Jordan
Founded in 1718, a long line of highly respected men was in charge of the estate's fortunes. Ludwig Andreas Jordan was a member of the Reichstag, Ludwig von Bassermann-Jordan was significantly involved in the first German wine law and Dr. Friedrich von Bassermann-Jordan is the author of the standard work "Der Deutsche Weinbau". In 2002 the entrepreneur Achim Niederberger took over this traditional property. After his death, his wife Jana Niederberger continued the estate in his spirit. The centuries-old cellar vaults with ancient finds from the vineyards and the wine museum, which contains all vintages from 1880 to the present day and the major vintages back to 1811, are absolutely worth seeing. Ulrich Mell, technical director for years, is responsible for the style of the wines. Crystal-clear, modern, primary fruit Rieslings, but also spontaneously fermented Rieslings from VDP.GROSSEN LAGEN are style-defining for the whole region.
About the 2018 vintage: Almost 10 years after the conversion of the estate's own vineyards to ecologically certified viticulture, according to anthroposophical philosophy, the complexity of the soil is becoming increasingly prevalent in the wines. A high-quality vintage that has produced very good qualities due to the beautiful weather and wines that will provide great drinking pleasure in the coming season. Through selective measures for harvesting in the vineyard and vinification in the cellar, the alcohol values have also remained moderate, so that the wines are more animating and inviting than filling. The wines show a lot of fruit and a good structure.
