Weingut Dr. Family owned Loosen. When Ernst Loosen took over in 1988, he quickly recognized the great potential of the vineyards. 60 to 100 year old, root-correct vines in the most famous wine regions of the Middle Mosel offer perfect conditions for the production of large Mosel Rieslings. Due to the very stony and skeleton-rich soils, a large part of the Moselle is still free of phylloxera. Dr. Loosen only produces Rieslings from the traditional slate layers of the Moselle. In the Royal Prussian Wine Location Classification of 1868, all six main wine locations were Loosen shown as a large location. Gutsintern deliberately uses this classification today and since 1988 has only been filling Rieslings from the classified vineyards as VDP. LARGE LOCATIONS, all other wines as estate Riesling. For Ernst Loosen, these principles guarantee the production of great Moselle wines that reflect their unique origins and centuries-old tradition.
