The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® HOHELEITE extends, as an extension of the GL JULIUS-ECHTER-BERG, with west to south-west orientation at 330 to 360 meters above sea level along the summit of the Schwanberg, which protects against easterly winds, below the Schwanberg Castle. It is considered a fillet piece within the single layer Küchenmeister. The soils of the approximately 15 hectare GL HOHELEITE are characterized by their diversity: Gypsum keuper from sediments of fossil, small marine animals (myophoria layers) dominates, which intersperses a so-called estheria layer with differently colored clay deposits. There are also reed and bubble sandstone. History: The name goes back to an earlier ravine - the "Hohen Weg" - which ran right below the forest. The Hoheleite is mentioned in a document as early as 1317 in the inventory of the Ebrach monastery. (Source: VDP.de)
