VDP.Village: Ambassadors for the best terroir
Special soil types, so-called "terroir wines", which may also be available beyond the local boundaries, are listed on the label with the VDP.ORTSWEINE level.
GRAPE VARIETIES
Cultivation of 80% traditional grape varieties typical of the region.
YIELD
The harvest is limited to a maximum yield of 75 hl per hectare.
LABELLING
The dry VDP.ORTSWEIN is labeled as "quality wine dry". No predicate levels are awarded for dry local wines.
Fruit-sweet VDP.ORTSWEINE may carry the classic predicates "Kabinett", "Spätlese", "Auslese", "Beerenauslese", "Trockenbeerenauslese" and "Eiswein" according to their maturation.
In addition to the name of the winery and the grape variety, a VDP.ORTSWEIN bears the place name on the label as an indication of its origin. A VDP. ORTSWEIN can be identified as such on the label or on the capsule, but does not have to.
MARKETING
In order to give the VDP.Ortsweins an appropriate minimum maturity, they will only be put on the market from March 1st after the calendar year following the harvest.
