Vineyard

The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® MEERSPINNE in the almond garden is located in the middle of a foothill of the Haardtgebirge, which belongs to the Palatinate Forest, at 150 to 170 meters. It slopes down to the south-east to the Rhine and is illuminated from early in the morning. In addition, nocturnal streams of cold air from the Palatinate Forest through the so-called Gimmeldinger Valley can cool down the vines, which are hot during the day, and thus maintain the acidity in the berries. The subsoil of the seven hectare GL MEERSPINNE consists of massive lime. A mixture of red sandstone rubble eroded down the slope and blown calcareous loess gradually settled on this limestone ridge. The water holding capacity of the soil is good. History: The sea spider location is legendary - but it has only been around since 2015. It was removed again from the VDP.GROSSEN LAGE® MANDELGARTEN and entered in the layer roll. As early as 1456, the "Mersbin" is shown in the interest book of the monks of the Weissenburg monastery in Alsace as the origin of excellent wreaths. Even today, this vineyard is considered the best location in Gimmeldingen. (Source: VDP.Weingüter)
