The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® AN DER RABENLEI is located in the municipality of Boppard on the Middle Rhine, directly on the Rheinschleife. It is part of the single location Bopparder Hamm. Their steep slopes have a slope of up to 60 percent. With its orientation to the south, the Riesling is guaranteed long exposure to the sun during the day. The water surface of the adjacent Rhine serves as a heat store and counteracts frosts. The soils of the only 1.5 hectare small plot are characterized by weathered Devonian slate, the reddish color of which indicates a high iron content. History: The Roman fort Bodobrica was built in Boppard in the 4th century AD. Since wine was part of the troop catering, it is assumed that it was already being grown in Bopparder Hamm at that time. Viticulture in Boppard was first mentioned in a document in 643.
