One of the most spectacular vineyards in the world! Like an amphitheater, the gigantic Rotenfels towers over the tiny stage – a few narrow terraced vines – on which only Riesling can play so impressively. The vines are rooted deep in the volcanic ryolite debris that has crumbled off the more than 200 meter high rock massif over thousands of years. Who the Rotenfels - an immense heat storage! – seen glowing in the evening light, can well imagine what the wines of this unique location tell about. The rare bottles of the Bastei GG are very valuable with their enormous mineral content!

wine description

2020 BASTEI Riesling GG late release | Magnum

VDP.GROSSE LAGE: 2020 Traisen BASTEI Riesling Grosses Gewächs | late release | dry | Magnum

As a late release, the Bastei GG is allowed to remain in the barrel on the yeast for two years before it is bottled and sold. The Traiser Bastei site is one of the most spectacular vineyard sites in the world, the vines grow in front of the highest rock face north of the Alps and are rooted deep in the rhyolite scree. The massif of the Rotenfels watches over the vines with its huge heat accumulator, which, at just 1.8 hectares, form one of the smallest GG vineyards in Germany. Gut Hermannsberg owns one hectare of this exceptional location, which means that the Bastei GG is always strictly limited and sells out quickly.
