wine description

2022 UNGEHEUER Riesling GG

VDP.GROSSE LAGE®: 2022 Forst UNGEHEUER Riesling GROSSES GEWÄCHS | dry

The Forster Ungeheuer location is located west of the wine town of Forst on the slopes of the Haardt Mountains. The name comes from the former Deidesheim town clerk Johann Adam Ungeheuer, who died in 1699. His gravestone still stands today next to the old church in Mußbach. The former Reich Chancellor Otto von Bismarck said about a wine from this location: "This monster tastes outrageous to me!" The grapes for the 2022 Forster UNGEHEUER GG were selectively harvested in several rounds. 60% of the Riesling was aged in stainless steel tanks, the rest in traditional barrels. After fermentation, the individual base wines remained on the full yeast until bottling in July. The MONSTER appears at the beginning with a slight reduction and smokiness. With air, light cardamom and citrus-like notes appear. Overall, the wine appears chalky, taut, with a firm body and some salty minerality on the tongue. This Riesling is dense with a lot of pull and finesse and stays in the mouth for a long time. A wine that has a great future ahead of it and should only be drunk slowly in 4-5 years.

In terms of food, this Riesling goes perfectly with seafood, Thai cuisine, sushi, grilled vegetables or even spicy pasta dishes.
