The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® STROHLENBERG HEYDENREICH is characterized by its special soil structure. As in the slightly better known VDP.GROSSEN LAGE® SANKT PAUL below, the floor consists of pure limestone with a loose soil layer 25 to 50 centimeters thick. The water holding capacity is very good. At the same time, the mountain top stores a lot of heat during the day, which can have an effect in the evening hours. At the same time, fresh air from the forest and the nearby Lauertal provides refreshment. What is also unusual about GL HEYDENREICH is that it is not on German, but on French soil. It belongs to the single location Sonnenberg, parts of which are in Germany as well as in France. History: The vineyards in the border area between the German Schweigen and the French Wissembourg were formerly called "Wechsellagen" because they changed their "nationality" over and over again in the course of history. Since the parcel is on French territory, wines from German winemakers are not allowed to use this site name on the label. (Source: VDP.de)
