Kammerberg

Vineyard

The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® KAMMERBERG is located in the French part of the Sonnenberg individual vineyard. Its slope drops with a slope of up to 30 percent to the south in the direction of Weißenburg (Wissembourg). The soil in the Kammerberg consists of weathered limestone, loam and clay, with pure limestone in the subsoil, which predestines the location for Pinot Noir. Due to the intense solar radiation, the soil heats up quickly. This ensures that the grapes are ripe. At the same time, the nearby Lauter valley brings cooling winds at night, which help to maintain the acidity. History: Hundreds of years ago, the wines of the Kammerberg were already very popular with the monks of the early medieval Benedictine monastery in Weißenburg - they stored the "chamber wines" in their monastery cellar - yet the location was forgotten - until it was rediscovered in 1965 by Friedrich Becker. Since the parcel is on French territory, wines from German winemakers are not allowed to use this site name on the label. (Source: VDP.de)
