The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® WEILBERG is located in a south to south-east exposure around a 2000 year old Roman winery. The vineyards are 140 to 170 meters above sea level and slope between 5 and 20 percent. In addition to the climatically favorable location, the soil is also particularly important. The vernacular speaks of red earth, a red colored, clayey loam with a certain limestone content and high fine earth content. Such soils can actually only be found in the Mediterranean region. The red color is also seen as an indication of a good mineral supply. The GL is around 32 hectares and largely planted with Riesling. History: The Weilberg is basically the nucleus of viticulture in the Palatinate. Roman settlers founded a winery at this point about 2000 years ago, planted the vineyard and brought viticulture to the region. (Source: VDP.de)
