grape variety Pinot Noir
In Germany, Pinot Noir is mainly grown in the wine-growing regions of Baden, Rheingau and Ahr. German Pinot Noir wines are known for their elegance, finesse and complexity. They are typically light to medium ruby red in color and exhibit aromas of red fruits such as cherries and raspberries along with notes of spice, earth and tobacco. The tannins are mostly fine-grained and well integrated, and the acidity is moderate. Pinot Noir wines produced internationally vary depending on the growing region and winemaking techniques. In France, particularly Burgundy, wines are often slightly lighter in color and display aromas of red fruits such as cherries and strawberries, along with notes of spice, mushrooms and earth. In the US, especially California and Oregon, wines are often fuller and richer with aromas of dark fruits like blackberries and blackcurrants, as well as notes of vanilla and oak. In Australia and New Zealand, the wines are often a bit stronger and fruitier with aromas of cherries and raspberries as well as hints of spice and chocolate
