2017 ELYSIUM Riesling | Halbflasche
After 1989, 1991, 1993, 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2017 we fermented a noble sweet must in small oak barrels, which is also used at Château Yquem. "Elysium" is a specialty that goes perfectly with foie gras or blue cheese.
A year full of challenges. It started with a short, cold winter. Nature awoke early from its hibernation. Spring-like temperatures from mid-February to mid-April caused premature budding. Fortunately, our vineyards were spared a severe cold shock at the end of April. Warmer temperatures prevailed again from mid-May and the vegetation continued to develop. The flowering period in June went smoothly and even the dry summer months did not disturb the development of maturity in any way. The change in the weather in August with squalls and hail spared our Rüdesheim vineyards again, but unfortunately we had to make losses in Rauenthal. Further heavy rains in September resulted in bursting grapes and rapidly progressing rot and wasp damage. As a result, we started our harvest quite early in early September and ended on October 7th after a strict selection.
