The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® JESUITENGARTEN is one of the warmest locations in the Rheingau. This is due, among other things, to the easily warm soil made of sandy loam (floodplain) with gravel and sand deposits. But also the nearby Rhine - the vineyards are right on the riverside path - can fully develop its effect as a heat store here. Due to this warm microclimate, the vines sprout early and bloom early - so the grapes can ripen for a long time. The location at around 100 meters is quite flat with a three percent gradient and oriented to the south and southwest. It lies between Geisenheim and Winkel and in parts directly in the village of Winkel. History: The origin of the name dates back to 1606, when the Archbishop of Mainz handed over the St. Bartholomae Chapel with the associated vineyards to the Jesuit College in Mainz, which owned the vineyards until 1773.
