Vineyard

The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® ROTHENBERG stretches in parts up to 40 percent steeply down the slope to Geisenheim and extends to the building boundary. A total of almost 10 hectares (single layer 44 hectares), the pure southern slope stretches between 100 and 130 meters above sea level. The soils glow red from iron oxide - there is also weathered rock rich in coarse soil with slate, including Taunus quartzite. The soil has good water holding abilities. History: The Rothenberg single layer got its name from the red iron oxide. It was first mentioned as a single layer as early as 1145. On the oldest site classification map in the world from 1867, it was assigned the highest class I status, on a par with the Rüdesheimer Berglagen, Schloss Johannisberg, Steinberg, Marcobrunn and Graefenberg. Since 2005, this vineyard has set the German record for must weights three times. In the record year 2011, TBAs with must weights of 259 °, 319 ° and an incredible 340 ° were harvested in Rothenberg. 2015, 2016 and 2017 are the last vintages so far with the optimal conditions for TBAs. The must weights 170 °, 190 ° and 230 ° were harvested.
