Vineyard

The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® ROTHENBERG stretches down the slope to Geisenheim with a gradient of up to 40 percent and extends to the development limit. A total of almost 10 hectares (single site 44 hectares), the pure southern slope stretches between 100 and 130 meters above sea level. The soil glows red from the iron oxide - there is also coarse soil-rich weathered rock with slate, including Taunus quartzite. The soil has good water holding abilities. History: The single vineyard Rothenberg got its name from the red iron oxide. It was first mentioned in 1145 as a single layer. On the oldest location classification map in the world from 1867, it was assigned the highest status of Class I, on a par with the Rüdesheim mountain locations, Schloss Johannisberg, Steinberg, Marcobrunn and Gräfenberg.
