The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® LIEBFRAUENSTIFT-KIRCHENSTÜCK is located in the middle of the city of Worms and surrounds the eponymous Liebfrauenkirche. The rather flat vineyards, which are surrounded by a wall to protect them from the wind, extend between 90 and 100 meters in height. Overall, the city contributes to a slightly warmer climate. The soils are partly made of loess with a proportion of rotliegend. Sometimes it is also slightly sandy loam. In the deeper layers there is sand and gravel, the remnants of the old Rhine river bed. Riesling is predominantly grown in the LIEBFRAUENSTIFT-KIRCHENSTÜCK GL. History: The location is the origin of the name "Liebfrauenmilch". From the middle of the 19th century, the wines were sold all over the world at high prices. The name was later extended to all Rhine wines and the concept of quality was watered down as a result. The location was part of the ecclesiastical property of the Capuchin monastery Liebfrauen-Stiftskirche. (Source: VDP.de)
