SOMMELIERS Vintage Champagner GLAS | Riedel

Sommeliers Vintage Champagner Glass
Champagne is the northernmost growing region in France. From the start, its shell limestone soils and climate produced white wines that tended to sparkle. In the 19th century, this technique of second fermentation (in bottle) was completed and brought to perfection. At first, sweet, sparkling dessert wines were offered through high dosages. It was not until around 1930 that the trend began to develop these dry wines. The popularity of the bowl goes back to the time when champagne was only drunk sweet. The use of the flute also developed parallel to this, so that to this day two traditional forms divide the camp of connoisseurs. Riedel recommends the flute shape for dry champagne in order to emphasize the character of the high-quality base wines. In 1985 the vintage champagne glass was presented, which, when filled to a third, gave the bouquet room to develop the exciting yeast-nut aroma and thus show the quality of the great champagne. The perlage is perceived as creamy and fine in this glass, the strong acidity is softened by the dosage (approx. 12 g residual sugar). This glass shape enhances the pleasure, it gives the champagne a creamy, fruity overall impression.
